Oudtshoorn is probably not the first place you think of to go on a holiday with your bike, but as it turns out, there is some great riding, stunning scenery, cools kids who are excited to ride their bikes, and so much more. We recently made a trip down to the Ostrich capital of SA to meet up with the DSV LEADout team and spend some time riding our bikes together. First and foremost, I have to say, what a cool bunch of nice, well-mannered, excited kids. Mostly in their teens, the group of guys and girls showed us around their local trails and shared some of their love for bicycles and what it means to them to be involved in a project like this. What a privilege to hear their stories and share their passion. While in Oudtshoorn, we were hosted by Errol Pretorius who owns the La Pension Guest House and also runs Karoo MTB Tours. Errol is also a flippen good rider and a first class gentleman. We were treated to a great ride around @chandeliergamelodge on one day, and then over the Swartberg Pass the next. From a riding point of view, the ride over the pass to Prince Albert was a standout highlight. Being in the mountains and seeing the incredible rock features was just amazing. Real mountain biking in big mountains. Off the bike there is tons to do as well, including the renown Cango Caves, Ostrich Emporium and many other highlights.
“The folds in the mountains are like nothing I have ever seen anywhere I have ever traveled around the world, its truly special"
If you looking for a great weekend away with your bike and family, consider Oudtshoorn, it will definitely be a great surprise just how awesome the riding is, and you might just bump into the DSV Leadout team, so be sure to say hi if you do.
