Sanddrif, Cederberg, Western Cape

One of the most visually amazing place to ride bikes in South Africa, hands down.
Trails: 6/10 Facilities: 7/10
“Riding bikes here makes you remember why they call it mountain biking. Every time you look up and see where you are, in big mountains, it all makes sense.”- Devlin
I went to the Cederberg on family holiday a few years ago, happened to have my bike, and went for a quick ride. I vowed to return one day, and here we are.
We landed in CPT and jumped into a hired panel van with Nathan having to lie on the floor in the back...classy.
Just before Clan William we turned off the main road and started to climb, and climb, and climb. And then it happens, you emerge onto a plateau of sorts, the terrain changes, and you enter this rocky wonderland.
Did I mention it was rocky!! Make sure you get tyre pressures right. Its also very technical riding, perfect for us, but maybe not everyone.
We stayed at Sanddrif cottages which were ideal for a bunch of boys on bike tour, and it didn't hurt that Cederberg Wines is your neighbour, who also happen to offer a cracker craft IPA. Not to be missed.
Back to the riding, you need to be switched on to ride their trails for sure, but the reqard is amazing. There are not many trails, but what is there is just surreal and so different to almost everything else we have ever ridden. Novice and Intermediate riders can stay in the lowlands and ride along the main district road, which is not challenging but the scenery alone makes it worthwhile.
Add a post-ride dip into the nearby river to the mix and you have an awesome adventure riding destination.
