One of the wildest parts of our country has a surprising amount of natural tracks and footpaths just waiting for the adventurous mountain biker
“Adveture, adveture, adventure. Probably one of my favorite things to do riding wise is explore places off the beaten track, where there are no trail signs or map, just time-hewn cattle and footpaths to explore”- Devlin Fogg
Riding Experience: 7/10 Facilities: 5/10 (Depends where you are)
The Transkei, or Wild Coast as it’s affectionately known, is a unique environment. An unforgiving stretch of our coastline, feared by mariners, borders beaches and hills beyond that hide many adventure rich locations. We have ridden the Wild Coast on many occasions, mostly along the beaches, but this time we decided to explore further inland, along the foot and cattle paths that have been hewn into the land by decades of 2 and 4 legged traffic.
What we discovered was a gold mine of trails, phenomenal scenery, and good times around the camp fire.
There are literally 100′s of places you could stay along the entire length of the region, while you go out exploring. All you need is an adventurous spirit and your trusty steed. Sure you may hit a few dead end trails, but you may just discover some true Transkei Gold along the way.
Don’t forget to stop for a swim in the multitude small streams along the way.
